Hopefully you'll bear with me so I can confirm my understanding.  It may be a bug, or we may have uncovered a set of issues we're not showing on the Summary page and we definitely want to fix that.  Please see the attached screenshot which I will reference:

 

It sounds like you're saying:

 

a) On the left hand side in the Tree, you see a host with a warning icon (mine is Red in this example)

b) On the center area in the Host-> Summary pane, you don't see anything like the Yellow box I have (which reads "Cannot Synchronize Host..." and "Host Connection and power state")

 

Additional question:

c) If you go to Web Client "[that Host ]-> Monitor -> All Issues", do you see anything in that list?  If yes, can you include a screenshot of that?

I know this is not what you want to hear but my own experience with a NFS datastore hosted on a windows server is that it simply doesn't work. You will have myriads of issues and timeouts due to the way Windows operates. And I tried both 2008R2 and 2012R2 a few years later after that. Researched every blog post of 'successful' implementations only to find out the bloggers never bothered to run it through its paces. One of them actually acknowledged he simply undid it after simply setting it up for his blog purpose. None actually tried to do any real workload on them from my experience.

 

I was able to make the host see the datastore, mount it and even run ONE VM on it. But as soon as I tried to do anything that stressed it, such as a storage vmotion or a regular vmotion, the thing would time out and the operation would fail. Every.... single.... time. It would be far easier and reliable to spin up a FreeNAS or Linux server to host the NFS share. Believe me, doing it on Windows is not worth the headache.

Re: User Profile is not updating in UEM

Actually user profile is working and updating all the changes till last week, but starting this week changes are not updating/persisting to user profile

 

It is happening (not persisting changes to userprofile) to few applications only 

 

From log files I found one log saying "Previews import not marked as successful ------ skipping export" [I saw it when user log's off  from machine]

@jose-  Yeah, I definitely don't want to hear that.  :-)

 

Really, the only need for mapping a datastore to the windows box is to be able to move some vms onto the host, and to make ISOs available. Can't spin up another server at this site at the moment, so linux or freenas is out.  If I can't make this work...

 

I've never tried to mount a usb drive as a datastore on esxi. It would require a site visit, which is fine. Would that be an option?

 

EDIT: Or...how about setting up iSCSI storage windows for the host?

I installed the latest Windows 10 update:

 

 

Still getting out of memory messages, but the complete crashes seem to have stopped. In fact, the virtual machine closed down and told me at had created a vmware.log file. Would this be of use to VMWare engineers?

Disk Space Capacity does not match VM Disk Space Configuration

Hey All,

 

Have a question on how Total Disk Capacity is configured.

 

I'm not sure where it's getting 13.52 GB for disk space when the Disk space under "Further analysis" is 1.43TB (correct total amount among all of the VM's hard disks). How is this calculated? How does vROPS pick which disk/file system to report on? Does it only report on "sda" or hard disk 1 which is a 20GB disk?

edit:

It's not consistent either. Here's another VM in our environment with a 20GB Hard Disk 1 with 52.77GB configured. It has a DIsk 2 of 100 GB, Disk 3 of 100GB, and disk 4 of 40GB.

Personally I don't see the benefit of adding them to AD. Just another configuration you need to be mindful of if they are joint to AD. Keep it simple Each to there own

Ok, has anyone had an issue where the, previously hidden by UEM policy, Disposable disk drive letter is now visible?
I'm wondering if it's a result of this policy change.  I've verified the UEM "Hide drive letter" setting is in place but the Y drive (the letter I have) will not be hidden, now.

Any takers on that one?

So... When I use Internet Explorer, login, click on a VM, click on Actions, and then go to "Console" --> "Launch Remote Console", it works just fine, and just connects...

 

When I use chrome, I am presented with a login box, it has the error: "Failed to connect to www.domain.tld: invalid or expired session ticket."  The interesting part here, is that "www.domain.tld" is my webserver, NOT the domain name of my virtual server (which for discussion would be vm01.domain.tld).

 

I re-enter the username and password, and I get the error: "Failed to connect to www.domain.tld: HTTP error 403", again, that's not the hostname of my VM Server...

 

SO!!

 

I tested with IP (https://1.2.3.4/ui), and it works.  What could possibly be going wrong??

FYI: getting VMware certification is now harder and more expensive Certification Exam Price Increase on April 1 - VMware Education & Certification - VMware Blogs

Moreover: VMware has closed the comment section on this blog: Certification Insights: VCP Recertification - VMware Education & Certification - VMware Blogs due to many negative responses.

 

I guess if VMware keeps on doing this eventually, people will move away to the other cloud provider or competitor product. See what Novell certification & product has become.

iSCSI would work just fine. I had no issues using the same 2012 R2 server as an iSCSI target for ESXi hosts.

 

Out of curiosity, what NFS version and transport do you have selected for NFS on your 2008 R2 server? It's under the 'Server settings' tab of 'Server for NFS' properties.

default was nfs version 3, so i left it there.

 

Another odd bit of behavior on the esxi host, is enabling NSF in the host firewall. I'd check the box leave, come back, see it was still checked. Fiddle with trying to get the datastore to show up, then go back to the firewall and find NFS was no longer checked. Not sure what that is all about, but I think I read somewhere that it will automagially open the correct port when needed. I just don't understand why it keeps unchecking itself. Not sure if that hasn't anything to do with anything. Just curious.
