I met the same problem. So why is just Safari?

Re: NSX Edge ECMP + NAT

My understanding is that

Edge GWY1 -> Equal Costs to Physical Router#1 & Physical Router#2 is not considered as ECMP

NAT should work. The reason I feel NAT should work is because the traffic IN & OUT is via the same Edge GW.

Let me know if my understanding is right.

VMWare Quit Unexpectedly When Exiting

I haven't had any issues while operating my VM, however when I shut down the OS, and quit the application I get a crash report stating that VMware has quit unexpectedly. Anyone else having this issue?

Gotcha, my bad.

I wrongly assumed you already had a standard installation on the target VM (from a template for example).

You're asking to reply, with PowerShell, to a prompt in the  Grub process.

Afaik that is not possible.

Hi, i tryed to convert a windows server 2012 R2 server to Vmware Esxi 5.5 im using the last vcenter converter standalone (6.1.1 Build-3533064)

I have migrated several servers in the past without problems. My file server refuses to finish correctly I always have errors has 96%

An error occured while taking a snapshot: The parent virtual disk hab been modified since the child was created ...

I looked at the log but I can not find what could cause the problem.

I made several attempts (5) but the conversion takes more than 3 days because the server contains more than 1.5 TB and it is hosted in the cloud

I included the log in the post if anyone can take a look at it. Sorry for my English I used google translation

Re: What is the recommended RAID configuration for a Single ESXi 6.0 host with local storage only?

0

Single ESXi hosts with local VMFS-storage using RAID5 seem to be that type of environment that run the highest risk of dataloss due to VMFS-cirruption problems.
Thats the lesson I learned in a few years of remote recovery work.
So I tell all my customers to avoid Raid5 at all costs.
Another design mistake I see a lot in small environments is the use of a single datastore only.
This produces big problems when that VMFS-volume needs maintenance.
So my recommendation for single hosts with local storage is to use datastores not larger than 2TB (anything much larger than that can no longer be evacuated during a night or weekend).
Another important tip to survive unexpected power failures without problems is to use eager zeroed thick provisioned vmdks for all VMs.
The more thin provisioning is used (thin vmdks and snapshots) the higher the risk to lose data during power failures.

Re: vRA "public" URL kicks over to IaaS .local URL

Thanks rstoker13!  Yes, I am using a simple install for testing purposes, no LBs yet (though I am going to be looking to LB this soon, so I am sure I'll have more questions then).

I see what I did wrong - when I deployed I put the FQDN of the .local name for the IaaS server for "IaaS Web Address" - naturally that won't work.  I wish there was a little comment there like in the vRA field.

That said - is it too late to change?  Also, how can I put a valid external cert on the IaaS server then?  I had issues with it complaining that the SAN, blah blah.

I appreciate your response I would have never found the KB below, actually!

Edit:  I changed the IdP hostname to match my FQDN config for vRA (cloud.domain.com) and no longer get kicked over to vra.domain.local

But how do I change the IaaS web address and do I even bother?

Ok so, after doinf these comands -

sudo apt-get install git-core

sudo apt-get install automake libtool libpthread-stubs0-dev

  sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-dev x11proto-xinerama-dev libx11-xcb-dev

  sudo apt-get install libxcb-glx0-dev libxrender-dev

  sudo apt-get build-dep libgl1-mesa-dri libxcb-glx0-dev

Most I had save for the first and last one. I uninstalled the vmware-tools

sudo apt-get purge open-vm-tools

rebooted and installed the vmware-tools that come with the player via

./vmware-install-config.pl  after extracting the vmware-tools-distrib to my desktop from the CD drive, and hey presto it

installed without errors. However, on reboot my graphic driver is still  Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 4.0, 256 bits)

If only there was some nice and simple way to install Gallium 0.4 on SVGA3D; build: RELEASE; LLVM; I think that would solve the desktop scaling issue.

If there are any geniuses out there who can crack this they will be legends forever more.

Changing VCenter hostname or FQDN

I am preparing to migrate our Windows VCenter 6.0 install to a 6.5 VSA.  Prior to doing this, I would like to change the hostname and/or FQDN of the VCenter Server, so it matches its new location.

Is there a way to change either the entire hostname of the sysyem or, in a worst case change it from vcenter.apples.com to vcenter.oranges.com?

You may want to take a look at the following kb articles.

Can I change the Hostname or IP Address of my vCenter Server during or after migration?

You cannot change the Hostname (FQDN), also referred to as Primary Network Identifier (PNID) before or after migration. You can however, change the IP Address if you are using FQDN by updating your DNS records and then updating the IP Address of your vCenter Server using the Virtual Appliance Management Interface (VAMI) located at https://vcenter_server:5480.

IP Address Requirements for vSphere 6.5 Cluster

I found this document which lays out the number of IP Addresses needed for a vSphere 5 Cluster.

IP Address Requirements for a VSA Cluster

We are looking at deploying a new vSphere 6.5.x cluster and I am looking for a similar document, but can't find one.

Have there been any changes or is this document still accurate?

Thank you!

I'm not sure what circumstances that is necessary but the times I have configured it so far it added them to unicast agent list fine without specifying -i (outbound interface).

ESXi 6.5.0a Install and WGET

0
0

Hi All -

I've been recently working on a number of PXE booted installs of ESX.  I have a kickstart file that has a %post section that performs a few actions, then sends a simple GET request to a web server using wget.  The %post stuff works great in 5.5 Update 3, 6.0 Update 2, and 6.0 Update 3.  When I try it with 6.5.0a (4887370) everything works great EXCEPT the wget call.  Wget times out (can't connect to remote host (x.x.x.x): Connection timed out.

  • The remote host is the exact same host that ESXi booted and installed off of without issue (via HTTP).
  • The interface (vmnic0/vmk0) is up and has a valid IP address.
  • The HTTP host responds normally to pings.
  • The HTTP host responds normally to requests from other systems on the same network.

The HTTP server is on port 8080, is there something funky w/ 6.5 that "blocks" outgoing traffic on port 8080?  I'm stumped!!

Thanks in advance for any input!

Re: Horizon 7.1 and Teradici Zero Client Firmware Compatibility

In my case upgrading to VMware Horizon View 7 cause connections to throw a TLS error on the Zero Client when users tried to connect. It was a simple fix by running a script "TLS_1.0_Regedit.reg" to mortify the Master image registry & also Disabling "PCoIP Secure Gateway" in the Horizon 7 Administrator, then recomposing the pools.

1. Disable "PCoIP Secure Gateway" in the Horizon 7 Administrator

View Configuration > Servers > Connection Servers > Connection Server > Edit > Uncheck "PCoIP Secure Gateway"

2. Copy & Paste the following to a text file & save it with the ext .reg > It's really quite simple, you just need to change the .txt extension to TLS_1.0_Regedit.reg

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

; Horizon View TLS1.0 for legacy Zero Clients

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Teradici\PCoIP\pcoip_admin]

"pcoip.ssl_protocol"="TLS1.0:TLS1.1:TLS1.2"

NOTE:

This solution may or may not work for you, sometimes it depend on the Zero Client type & PCoIP .Ver you might have.

The new Zero & Thin clients  VDI / DaaS didn't have this problem.

Re: Resource Pool 101

Hi Yezdi,

Thanks for the response and I will definitely check the link you provided.  What concerns me is  the configuration and making sure that this won't affect  the VM's on my cluster. Is there an article somewhere that explains the computation on how much resources is need on a resource pool versus the amount of VM servers that it can handle?

Thanks!

Are you seeing the correct capacity calculations for Linux based VMs? This seems to be limited to CentOS in our environment.

Re: ESXi 6.5 connectivity issue on PowerEdge R430

Hi,

just curious, why is a F5 BIG IP VM related to this issue?

I'm running a Sophos UTM vm and it looks like the traffic passing trhough it causes the ESXi 6.5 hosts nic to hang/crash. Since the issue only happens when watching youtube using my Apple TV 4 the only thing related to ESXi is that the traffic is passing through a VM running on it.

Frank.
