@robrtb12

Thanks for the code that actually creates the folder structure.  That works.

@lliev

Thanks for the clarification

@Everyone

I have attached the workflow to this.  I will open a new discussion to improve on this to verify the folder does not already exists.

Thanks for your help.

Hi WoodyZ,

I tried that. Just reinstalled VMWare Tools... all seemed as before. i.e. I never had any indication that the tools weren't installing correctly before...

Anyway, sadly still no shared folders... I have /mnt/hgfs but nothing in there at all.

Any other ideas?

Many Thanks

VCDX Design Defenses in Singapore and Beijing - November 2013 (Updated July 2, 2013)

To support VCDX Program growth in the Asia-Pacific region and Greater China, VMware Certification would like to offer VCDX Design Defense opportunities at vForum Singapore and vForum Beijing in November 2013. Both events will support applications for VCDX4-DCV and VCDX5-DCV. The proposed Singapore VCDX Design Defenses will be offered in English only. The Beijing VCDX Design defenses will be offered in English and Mandarin. The decision to go ahead with one or both of these proposed certification events will depend on demand.

Update:

We have received enough interest to go ahead with the Singapore VCDX Design Defense October 28-30.

If you would like to apply for the Singapore VCDX Design Defense, please follow this link to the revised 2013 VCDX Defense Schedule:

Port mirroring available with vswitch or only dvswitch?

0
0

I am port mirroring on a Juniper switch and are connecting the analyzer port from switch to a nic that is connected to a separate vswitch and setting promiscuous mode on it.  I then connect this to a nic on the VM.  Will this not work on a vswitch and only on dvswitch?  Since I am not doing the actual port mirroring on the host and done on the physical switch I am not sure where the issue is.  Problem is, it was working and then stopped about two weeks ago.  Trying to determine if it is a ESX issue or Juniper issue.

Product Report Site Recovery Manager Protected VMs incorrect

When I run the product report the number of protected VMs is doubled form last month and is double actual number of protected VMs.

Example

We have 41 protected VMs between two sites

The product report shows 82 protected VMs

If I run the report for a 3 month period it wil show 123 protected VMs

Seems to be a cumulative report.

Re: Workspace cannot bind to AD (exact errors and what I did so far inside)

For the love of all that is holy. That worked!!

To be honest: That makes zero sense to me.

I've used cross LDAP lookups which dont care about this.

For future astronauts reading this.. here is what I did exactly:

1. I have ONE DC in my test lab, it's a GC. So it's listening on port 3268 (MS's GC port.)

2. Search attribute was set to userPrincipalName

3. Base DN is OU=Sales,DC=fabrikam,DC=com

4. Bind DN is a user inside sales, so.. OU=Sales,DC=fabrikam,DC=com

5. That user has First, Last, and email fields put in.

And.. 3 hours later.. and a very helpful answer from sravuri .. it worked !

Thanks again sravuri !

EDIT:

I went back and changed UserPrincipalName (old way) to SamAccountName.. and this is better, since this is already populated in all my accounts.

Congrats Micky,

There are Manuals available during this exam that can be referred. Do you know what those manuals are? What exactly are those?

Re: Error 31: A device attached to the system is not functioning, Windows 7 host, v. 7.1.4

I receive an error when the VM first starts.

"Host USB device connections disabled. The connection to the VMware USB arbitration service was unsuccessful. Please check the status of this service in the Microsoft Management Console."

I try and start the usb arbitration service and receive "Error 31". Like I said, this was working fine, and then I started getting this error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, I have deleted the upperfilters in the registry, I have uninstalled all USB devices in device manager, and nothing works. I don't have the AMD driver, and I don't have the .SYS file in c:\windows\system32 folder.

Edit:

Unable to use any USB drive in any vm client, USB works on the host OS. I can also map an .ISO as my CDRom.

Re: Provisioned Space Incorrect

Connecting to the host reports the correct capacity and free space. Per your suggestion I am unable to move the VM to another datastore due to the size. If I delete the the 2 additional disks I added to the VM the provisioned space goes back to being correct. Apologies. I added two 2 TB drives not two 1 TB as I stated in my original question. Even after adding the first additional drive the provisioned space went to 6 TB.

Disabling printer redirection for remote users only

Hi we have a client requirement that when users connect to the View 5.2 platform internally (over PCoIP) they are able to get both printers mapped with location based printing GPO and any locally attached usb printers. However when a user works from outside the LAN the requirement is to disable all printer redirection - they do not want sensitive documents being printed from outside the office.

What is the best way to achieve this?

Re: VDS uplink port group setting

That is because there is no need to set anything on the uplinks.

Uplink port groups are distinctly different from normal port groups. There is absolutely no reason to have these settings on uplink port groups, as they do not generate any frames themselves and merely forward traffic for the vNICs/vmk interfaces on attached port groups, there is no need to even expose a similarity visually like this. These settings and others like security apply to normal port groups only.

We are now having this issue as well, the above suggestion did nothing to help.

Is the share enabled?  Where there any errors when compiling the vmhgfs-only module?  If yes on the later you may need to apply a patch and I can't remember if I did or not however it works fine in my Linux Mint 15.  Look at my reply, Re: VMtools installation problem on Ubuntu 13.04, and do the same in Linux Mint 15 (I probably did it and that's why it's working in my install of Linux Mint).

This issue occurs if some of the files that are required to run the service are missing. The files may be missing if the product was installed or upgraded using an account that does not have sufficient privileges/permissions.

To resolve this issue:

  1. Launch a command prompt on the host machine using a Local Administrator account.
  2. Run this command:

    net start hcmon

Open the Windows service console and start the service manually.

If the service fails to start, try installing the hcmon service manually. To install the hcmon service manually:

  1. Launch a command prompt on the host machine using a Local Administrator account.
  2. Run this command:

    • In a 32-bit host operating system:

      "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Workstation\vnetlib.exe" -- install hcmon

In a 64-bit host operating system:

      "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation\vnetlib64.exe" -- install hcmon

  3. Open the Windows service console and start the service manually. The service should now start successfully.

If the issue persists even after trying the preceding steps, reinstall/repair VMware Workstation as a user with Administrative rights on the Windows host.

Solidworks 2012 - Dell R720 Nvidia K1 Grid GPU Samsung Zero Cleint / Teradici 2

Background:

Just fired up an R720 with a Nvidia K1 Grid installed.

Having one of our Engineers test a complex assembly using a Win 7/64bit VM configured to use 512meg vram with the K1 GPU.

Previously, the same Engineer was using the same pooled VM without the 3D hardware setting in the pooled linked clone.

Results:

With a complex assembly, the engineer is trying to turn on 'wireframe' but it is only showing a wireframe for a sub-assembly and not the whole assembly.

These are not the expected results.

Next Step:

I will create another pool and have it point to software only 3D (no gpu), and measure results.

- I am aware of the white paper table provided by VMware and different versions of Solidworks with 3D GPU

Cloning PrimeClient to setup Client1-6 to support multiple tiles, Question about vmmark2.config file

0
0

I am planning to run multiple tiles.  For my setup, Client0 is the prime client, and then I will have:

- Client1

- Client2

-...up to client 7

What do I need to do with the vmmark2.config files for the rest of the clients?

- Should they be configured separately in context of the tile that client belongs to?

- Or do I just worry about the config file on the prime client and leave the rest at defaults?
